Where to Spend National Dog Day

Posted on Blog, Holidays and Events August 23, 2016

Did you know that August 26th is National Dog Day? Our dogs give us so much- let’s take the day to show them some appreciation. Here’s a list of the best dog parks in South Florida; try to take your furry best friend to each one for an adventure-packed day!

Barkham Park

Located within Markham Park in Sunrise, Barkham Park is a three-acre grassy area dedicated to dog-related fun.  There are doggie drinking stations, pavilions for shade, and paved paths. There are also separate areas for small dogs and large dogs. Admission is free on weekdays and $1.00 per hour on weekends and holidays. If you’ve never been here before, you’ll want to bring your dog’s vaccination paperwork (the tag is not sufficient), and you’ll need to either purchase an annual pass for $25.00 or a day pass for $5.00.

Haulover Dog Beach

If your dog is a swimming, Haulover Dog Beach is the perfect spot to take them. They can frolic in the sand, take a dip in the warm ocean, bark at the waves, and cool off at the doggie washing stations. Located between lifeguard towers #2 and #3, you’ll see dogs of all kinds having a ball in the summer sun. Until Labor Day, Haulover’s dog beach is open 7 days per week from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Bark Park

Located within Snyder Park in Fort Lauderdale, Bark Park has agility equipment, separate areas for large and small dogs, lots of open space to run, shaded areas, and a doggie fountain and washing station. Just north of Bark Park is the very popular Doggie Swim- a treated dogs-only swimming hole.

Before heading out, be sure to pack lots of fresh drinking water, an umbrella, and snacks. Be aware of your surroundings while at any dog park- most of them are unmonitored. What are your pup’s favorite spots?
